Apart from the other fancy features, there is one more feature in every mobile phone irrespective of whether the phone is a high end one or not. Gaming in mobiles is the feature that has been maintained for many years. Every mobile phone will have games for the user to play. The number, type and the graphics of the game however depend on the model of the phone.

In most cases, the game technologies are present within the phone itself. But many times, depending on the model of the phone, the user can also access networked games through the connection that can be attained through GPRS etc. Nowadays, a market itself has developed for the mobile phone games. It is dependent on the revenue generated by the downloads of the games by the users. Therefore, in built games are not even taken into consideration. Depending on the regional differences and the preferences of the users, different countries have different percentages of revenue generated by the mobile phone game markets.

The technologies that are generally used for the development of mobile phone games are Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Macromedia’s Flash Lite etc. Though Java was used for the development, there were many restrictions.

The games played on mobile phones mostly serve the purpose of luxury. Gaming is never comfortable on mobile phones, because of the small screen and the flashy graphics. One of the major difficulties faced by the publishers and developers of mobile phone games is the information that has to be given for the game, which would help the customer to come to decision, in order to purchase the game. It is for this reason that developers have relied on licenses and brands that have produced games such as Tomb Raider etc.

Mobile phone games come either as single player or multiplayer games. Multiplayer games have more takers as users have an advantage of using mobile connectivity, to play with human opponents. Multiplayer games are achieved through

· GPRS

· Bluetooth

· Infrared

· WiFi

GPRS: The use of GPRS for gaming is very effective, as many GSM mobiles use GPRS. Therefore, world over many GSM mobiles can be connected to a single server. This way many players can access the multiplayer gaming function.

Bluetooth: Bluetooth is a protocol which can be used to connect mobile phones. This can be used for multiplayer gaming. However, the restriction is that, the mobiles have to be within a particular distance for establishing the connection.
